From offshore broadcaster to investor
Pioneering and innovation are part of Stichting Veronica’s DNA. We began as an offshore radio station, finding inventive ways to reach audiences from international waters. We later evolved from a public broadcaster into a commercial broadcaster, successfully expanding our media activities over the years to include television and a magazine. Following the sale of our various media activities in 2003, we began looking for a new role within the media landscape.
In this new role, Stichting Veronica aims to strengthen the European media landscape by connecting with innovative journalists and entrepreneurs. Through our investment arm, V-Ventures, we support our partners with both funding and expertise. We focus in particular on developing sustainable business models and strengthening financial independence, with a preference for long-term partnerships.
We also develop initiatives of our own. We are, for example, one of the founding organisations behind the European Press Prize and launched the development fund SV-Docs, for the production of journalistic documentaries. We also co-founded Adero, a company providing shared services to media organisations. This allows them to devote more time to their core work while building a solid organisational foundation.
In exceptional cases, when an organisation is not yet ready for investment but has both the potential and the ambition to become financially sustainable, we provide grant funding. This donations is meant to lead to a potential investment in the future.
